My son played in a playpen while I was working 12-hour shifts, sanding the floor and removing wallpaper. Ha! Everything was starting to fall into place, but we were nowhere near done. For this project, I was prepared to shell out a substantial amount of time and money looking for my dream house. In order to keep my budget sound, I travelled with my 3 boys looking for deals at estate sales. We had a weekly schedule that consisted of spending Friday through Saturday at estate sales and garage sales purchasing new and old objects. I spent the rest of the week working on painting and sanding the driveway. The furniture looked like this... which is where I found my love for restoration. Although our house had been decorated, I was unable to stop. On the streets, I rented a small space, and also sold objects. I eventually had so many pieces I didn't think of a solution and outgrew the space. Then I began hosting open houses at my house that saw more than 1 000 visitors would come through in one weekend, and purchase whatever they saw on the first floor. My business Growing Days began here. When my business grew as did our family. The balance between work and family was crucial to me. I wanted to balance being a mother and a successful business owner. Growing Days was the obvious choice. Nora was born in 2013 and became our fourth baby. My business was going well but I was in need of a break. I made the decision to take some time off from my vintage furniture and slow down to stay at home with the kids. This was precisely what I needed at the moment. It was only after several months that the phones started to call. There were calls from people asking me to assist them in decorating their homes and interiors. These were mostly customers who visited my home to purchase furniture. After that, I gradually took on new clients in my own way. Soon I had multiple clients and I was running a business of home renovations. If you had said to me that this company of mine could become an idea for a TV show for the DIY Network I probably would have thought you were crazy. It's fun to reflect on it.
